SWISD welcomes back students with free meals and supplies

Welcome Back to School at Southwest ISD!

Excitement filled the air as Southwest Independent School District’s dedicated bus drivers gathered at the bus barn bright and early at 5:30 a.m. on Monday. They were there to ensure that the buses were in top condition and ready to transport students on the first day of school.

This academic year, SWISD is proud to serve approximately 15,000 students across Bexar County, with 11 elementary schools, four middle schools, and three high schools in its network.

Dr. Jeanette Ball, the superintendent of SWISD, highlighted the district’s commitment to its students through a range of new, ongoing, and evolving programs.

One of the district’s top priorities is ensuring that all students have access to free breakfast, lunch, and supplies at every elementary and middle school, eliminating any potential barriers to learning.

Richard Riojas, principal of Indian Creek Elementary School, emphasized the importance of meeting students’ needs beyond academics to foster a conducive learning environment.

To ensure the safety and security of students, Ball mentioned that all SWISD schools are equipped with a police officer on each campus.

As SWISD continues to grow, the district is gearing up to break ground on a new school in the upcoming fall season.
