The Tampa Bay Rays came close to achieving a combined no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but fell short when Corbin Carroll hit a leadoff single in the seventh inning. Despite the disappointment, the Rays put on a strong performance with Drew Rasmussen striking out two batters during his two innings as the opener.
Carroll’s single, a flared ball to shallow left field, was just out of reach for shortstop Taylor Walls, who attempted a bare-handed catch. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. followed with another base hit, breaking up the potential no-hitter.
Before Carroll’s hit, Tyler Alexander had kept the Diamondbacks at bay, only allowing one baserunner in the fourth inning on a walk to Geraldo Perdomo. Walls also made a notable play in the first inning, throwing out Gurriel after a deflected grounder by Junior Caminero at third base.
Currently leading 6-1, the Rays showcased their pitching strength and defensive prowess in this game. It was a thrilling contest that almost made history with a no-hitter. Stay tuned for more exciting MLB action!
