SAN ANTONIO – A tragic incident unfolded last fall, when Michael Palafos faced trial for fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend in the head. The shocking turn of events led to a 50-year plea deal for Palafos, who initially faced a capital murder charge but ended up pleading no contest to the reduced charge of murder.
On the fateful day of October 20, 2023, Allison Cevalos, 36, was discovered with a gunshot wound to her head in a vehicle on Morningview Drive in San Antonio’s East Side. Despite being found alive, both Cevalos and her unborn baby girl tragically passed away in the hospital.
Palafos turned himself in to authorities following the incident, admitting that he had accidentally discharged a 9mm firearm from a glove box, striking Cevalos. He confessed to moving her to the passenger seat and disposing of the weapon at a friend’s residence.
During the sentencing hearing, a tearful statement was read on behalf of Cevalos’ grief-stricken family, underscoring the immense pain and loss they have endured.
Palafos has now been sentenced to serve his term in a state prison, where he must complete half of his 50-year sentence before being eligible for parole.
