Welcome Back to Southside Independent School District!
Excitement is in the air as more than 6,000 students and 900 staff members gear up for the first day of classes at Southside Independent School District. With a focus on safety and security, Campus Police Chief Don Berger shares his confidence in the district’s comprehensive plan.
Security measures are a top priority, with district police officers and security personnel undergoing continuous training and remaining vigilant. Parents can rest assured knowing that an officer will be present at every campus during pick-up and drop-off times.
The district has invested in various safety enhancements over the years, including the installation of fencing around each campus, metal detectors, and wands at entrances, and the upcoming installation of bullet-resistant film on doors and windows. Additionally, the state has implemented increased safety requirements, such as the Sentinel reporting and tracking system.
Chief Berger elaborates on the safety measures in place, stating, “As we’re preparing for Sentinel, we already have Navigate 360. It’s a system that’s already in place in all of our campuses, equipped with panic alarms that alert all officers in the district in case of an emergency.”
Students residing near Southside High School and Losoya Middle School will benefit from safer walkways to and from school, thanks to recent sidewalk construction and crosswalk improvements by Bexar County and TxDOT.
