Exciting Changes in Uvalde: City Seeks New Representation
The City of Uvalde is embarking on a new chapter as it seeks new legal representation. Long-time attorneys Paul Tarski and Alex Wegryzn recently resigned, marking the end of their nine-year tenure with the city.
According to the Uvalde Leader-News, the firm had been on an annual retainer of $85,000 with additional billing for extra services, such as their involvement in the Robb Elementary School shooting case.
The attorneys’ departure coincided with criticism from Uvalde council members regarding the handling of a recent shooting investigation by independent investigator Jesse Prado, which ultimately cleared all Uvalde police officers involved.
In a surprising twist, the city received a hefty bill of $80,000 for the investigative report, adding to the $97,000 already paid. This revelation sparked concerns among council members about transparency and approval processes.
City councilmember Hector Luevano expressed his disappointment during a September meeting, emphasizing the need for better oversight and communication within the city’s legal dealings.
