SAN ANTONIO – UPDATE (9/29/2024): The Bexar County Medical Examiner identified a man who police said was killed in a head-on crash after driving the wrong way on a highway.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 37 southbound near downtown.
Miguel Gonzalez, 22, tragically passed away from blunt force injuries, as confirmed by the medical examiner’s office. His death was deemed accidental.
ORIGINAL STORY: The San Antonio Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a driver who traveled the wrong way and ultimately perished in a head-on collision.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 37 southbound near downtown.
According to authorities, a driver in a Chevrolet Malibu was mistakenly heading northbound in the southbound main lanes of I-37. The Chevrolet collided with a Dodge Ram traveling southbound on I-37’s southbound lanes near the Houston Street exit.
Tragically, medical professionals pronounced the wrong-way driver in the Chevrolet deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was promptly taken to a local hospital with severe injuries, officials reported.
The identity of the Chevrolet driver remains unknown, as confirmed by law enforcement officers.
