Michael Andretti Steps Back from Leading His Global Motorsports Operation
Motorsports legend Michael Andretti recently announced to The Associated Press that he is shifting away from running the day-to-day operations of his global racing business. This decision led him to hand over leadership to his business partner, Dan Towriss.
Towriss, the owner of Gainbridge and holding company Group 1001, has been increasingly involved in Andretti Global over the past couple of years, eventually acquiring an ownership stake in the organization. Andretti clarified that this move was not influenced by IndyCar series owner Roger Penske, dispelling any rumors to the contrary.
With multiple business ventures, Andretti felt the time was right to step back from the intense world of racing. Turning 62 years old, he cited personal commitments, such as becoming a grandparent and managing other enterprises, as reasons for his decision.
Although Andretti will remain involved as an advisor and ambassador, his day-to-day obligations will diminish, allowing him to explore other interests.
Andretti Global, known for fielding cars in IndyCar and supporting various drivers across multiple series, will continue its operations under Towriss’s leadership. Despite recent challenges, Andretti Global remains optimistic about its future in competitive racing.
Regarding their efforts to join Formula 1, both Andretti and Towriss declined to elaborate, hinting at ongoing discussions and potential opportunities in the future.
While the restructuring did catch some by surprise, the transition signals a new chapter for Andretti Global and its iconic namesake. Andretti expressed gratitude for the support and looks forward to the next phase of his illustrious career.
