Hurricane Isaac, a Category 2 storm, was spotted in the North Atlantic far from land, while Tropical Storm Joyce continued its course over open waters east of the Caribbean.
Isaac was recorded with winds up to 100 mph, about 645 miles west-northwest of the Azores archipelago. It was moving northeast at 18 mph, as reported by the National Hurricane Center.
In contrast, Joyce had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, around 1,080 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands. Its track was to the west-northwest at 9 mph, according to the hurricane center.
Forecasters reassured that neither storm posed a threat to land and predicted a weakening trend in the days to come.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm that landed early Friday, caused considerable devastation across the southeastern United States, resulting in at least 56 casualties.
