The Chicago White Sox Avoid Record-breaking Loss
The Chicago White Sox narrowly escaped a record-breaking 121st loss for the second consecutive game by defeating the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 on Wednesday night, thanks to Andrew Benintendi’s clutch 10th-inning single.
With this win, Chicago is now tied with the infamous 1962 New York Mets for the modern major league record for most losses in a season. The White Sox will face the Angels again on Thursday before wrapping up their season with three games against the Detroit Tigers.
Benintendi came through with the go-ahead hit once again, lining a single to left-center against José Quijada, with designated runner Miguel Vargas scoring from second. This marked Benintendi’s second consecutive game-winning hit after he delivered a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning of the previous game.
Korey Lee and Lenyn Sosa also contributed to the White Sox’s victory with key home runs, while strong pitching performances by Davis Martin and Michael Soroka helped secure the win.
The Angels, on the other hand, matched a franchise record with their 95th loss of the season, highlighting a disappointing year for the team.
Despite the challenging season, the White Sox have shown resilience and determination, avoiding historical losses in the past two games. Their upcoming games will test their resolve as they aim to finish the season on a positive note.
