Welcome Alexander Rossi to Ed Carpenter Racing
Exciting news for IndyCar fans as Alexander Rossi has been announced as the newest driver at Ed Carpenter Racing. This marks the third team in four years for the former Indianapolis 500 winner, who is sure to bring his winning energy to the team.
Rossi, the rookie winner of the 2016 Indy 500, will join Christian Rasmussen in ECR’s two-car lineup. Carpenter, who has scaled back to racing just ovals, will focus on the Indy 500 next year in a third ECR entry.
This season, Rasmussen stepped up as a rookie to share the car with Carpenter, securing a spot in the Leaders Circle program which gives the top 22 teams a bonus. His efforts were rewarded with a contract extension and a full-time seat alongside Rossi.
Rossi, who was seeking a new job since June, will replace Rinus VeeKay and drive the No. 20 Chevrolet while Rasmussen will drive the No. 21.
Speaking on the new lineup, Carpenter said, “It is an exciting day to not only welcome Alex to the team, but to extend our relationship with Christian. We are very excited about our lineup and other partnerships that will be announced soon.”
Rossi, after leaving Andretti Global, was looking for a fresh start and found it at ECR. Despite not contending for the title, ECR is a strong presence at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where Rossi made history as the first American rookie to win the Indy 500 in 2016.
Says Rossi of his new opportunity, “Their commitment to excellence, Chevy’s power, and the ambitious future plans made this opportunity impossible to pass up. I’m eager to get started and contribute to the team’s continued success.”
