SAN ANTONIO – In honor of the sacrifices made by military families in San Antonio, a new Gold Star Families Memorial Monument will soon be unveiled at Veterans Memorial Park on Jefferson and East Martin Street.
This monument will serve as a tribute to the mothers, fathers, children, siblings, and spouses who have lost a loved one in conflict or war, never to see them return home.
Candy Martin, a retired Chief Warrant Officer 5 and Gold Star mother since 2007, has been instrumental in bringing this monument to fruition, advocating for the families who have experienced similar losses.
The monument was completed by the nonprofit Woody Williams Foundation, which aims to honor Gold Star Families across the country. With over 13 monuments in Texas alone, the significance of this monument cannot be understated.
Martin shared, “This monument is a symbol of remembrance for those who grew up without a parent or sibling due to war. It serves as a reminder of their sacrifice and resilience.”
The unveiling of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Plaza, with over 200 attendees expected to pay their respects.
