The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has taken a tragic turn as Russian forces continue to target civilian areas in border regions. In a recent attack, five people lost their lives due to Ukrainian shelling in Russia’s Belgorod region. Additionally, a hotel in eastern Ukraine was struck by Russian forces, resulting in one journalist missing and two others injured.

The village of Rakitone witnessed the tragic aftermath of the Russian shelling, with twelve people wounded and a 16-year-old girl in critical condition. Another man lost his life in a drone attack on the border village of Solovevka, highlighting the escalating violence in the region.

The attack on the hotel in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, left two people injured and one trapped under rubble, including journalists from Ukraine, the U.S., and the U.K. Reuters news agency reported that one of their journalists was missing, and two others were hospitalized following the missile strike on Hotel Sapphire.

Local officials revealed that the hotel was hit by an Iskander-M Russian ballistic missile, causing blast injuries, concussions, and cuts to the reporters. Associated Press reporters on the scene described the hotel as “rubble,” with rescuers working tirelessly to clear debris.

The attacks weren’t limited to the hotel, as a nearby multistory building was also destroyed, causing further chaos and destruction. The eastern Kharkiv region in Ukraine also came under Russian fire, resulting in multiple civilian injuries across various locations.

As the situation continues to escalate, it is essential to monitor the developments and stay informed about the impact of the conflict on civilians and journalists on the ground. The Associated Press is providing ongoing coverage of the war in Ukraine, offering a comprehensive view of the unfolding events.
